“Termez Experience” Emerges as Effective Model for Sports Development
A training and practical seminar for leaders of higher education institutions held on April 21–23 in Termez has highlighted the so-called “Termez Experience” as an effective and scalable model for the development of sports in the higher education system.
The event, hosted by Termez State University, was organized to implement priorities set during the April 7, 2026 videoconference meeting chaired by the President of Uzbekistan on advancing physical education and sports.
During the seminar, participants closely examined the university’s best practices in sports development. They were introduced to a system that integrates student sports clubs, modern infrastructure, sports medicine, and structured training processes.
Currently, the university operates 18 sports facilities, including 6 indoor and 12 outdoor venues, providing broad opportunities for student engagement.
In addition, professional teams in football, futsal, handball, and volleyball have been established. In 2025, these teams won a total of 309 medals in national and international competitions.
Rectors and representatives of universities from across the country received detailed insights into the management mechanisms and practical effectiveness of the model, which is now being considered for nationwide implementation.
As part of the program, the “Minister’s Cup” football tournament among students was held, alongside cultural visits to the Sultan Saodat Complex and the mausoleum of Al-Hakim al-Termezi.
